I see manufacturing takes another knock with the lose of 1300 jobs at Land Rover

http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30400-1211579,00.html

Anyone remember during the early 90's when the news at 10 used to have a count up every friday of the amount of jobs lost during that week ?

yes - i remember this but wasn't it earlier in the 1980's recession?

they used to have UK map showing that day's job losses - a mine closes here, a shipyard there, a factory somewhere else. all shown in red.

then sir alistair burnett or sandy gall (remember them?) would then run through the jobs gained - 10 part time burger flippers in the swindon branch of mcdonalds and suchlike. these were shown in green and they were few and far between, i can tell you! :(

then they'd cut to a "funny" story of a skateboarding penguin and then closedown. :P

ah happy days! not. <_<:(
