No mention of where these billions are coming from or critical analysis on the state the UK economy ! No. They just worship a deranged cult of Boris Johnson. Interestingly from their headline the Daily Mail are basically supporting a central Socialist command/control economy where the leader dictates a plan and allocates resources accordingly. Rather ironic isn't it? They claim to be on the Right! We're truly fecked. the media are all in for Boris and believe he is the saviour. Unbelievable... I don think Boris is evil per se but he definitely enjoys a press release, an announcement and a photo opp but what does it actually mean? I agree plenty of similarities with 1930s Germany. A leader the establishment and media had reservations with, but helped so as to avoid what they perceived as a greater radical left wing threat. Nationalism (Brexit) or quasi nationalism (WW2 mythology during lockdown) to unite and manipulate a dissatisfied population. A government without specific economic ideology itself, but happy to spend big on infrastructure for political gain. A brutal purge of political opposition within the ranks (the tory remain/one nation rump) Contempt for following political convention( shutting Parliament, taking away treasury independence, ignoring calls for resignations). I am not a massive fan per-se of big government but given the choice was made to go into lockdown (thus telling millions of employers to shut) borrowing to ease out the gap was the only logical solution. The herd immunity of let everyone trade without lockdown would not have required such levels of borrowing but was politically unsustainable. Are you saying they should have gone down that route? Anyone with strongly held free market economic beliefs, or even belief in fiscal responsibility, is going to be very disappointed. But this was always coming, with or without covid. It was why Boris was voted in, why Sunak was made chancellor and the treasury filled with stooges before this crisis started.
