House Price Crash Forum

...and yet strangely the narrator says he hopes to be a landlord himself one day. So he's obviously not averse to  money for 'doing nothing' as he puts it - as long as he's getting said money. And his tone betrays the fact that he's plainly jealous of those who do have investment property.

I wonder when it comes to the acid test, and one of his future tenants falls on hard times, whether he will put into practice what he preaches.

Sadly, we shall never know.

Our gardener (yes I said that, he comes with the house we are renting) told me that he was talking to the agent who runs the rental he is living in. He has a great track record of paying rent on time, and has a young family, with a pregnant wife. He works very hard for a different rental agent doing gardening, and they have said the work may have to end soon as it is not essential  (it is to me, my lawns would 2 hours to cut, he only takes 1 hour!), so he spoke to his landlord’s agent. The guy said any missed or delayed payments would go on his credit record, meaning he would have no chance of getting a mortgage. Landlords and their vermin agents are the scum of the earth and I would not shed a tear to see many of them go deep under. Any bailout that extends a penny to them will result in me never voting for Boris again.

I think that's bullsh1t. There's only an opt in scheme for rental payments going on credit records AFAIK. That agent is a liar and a bully.

And besides, late payments during a financial crisis like this could be pretty standard, the banks aren't going to blanket reject them all for mortgages. Again the agent is bullying. What a nasty person.
