In the latest survey, the wealthiest 10% of households held around 45% of total household wealth, 47% of private pension wealth, 39% of net property wealth and 66% of other financial wealth. “By contrast, the lower 50% of households held less than 10% of total wealth, property wealth and private pension wealth, and just 2% of other financial wealth (see chart below).” No self awareness. Wealth, mainly in the form of house equity, is concentrated - and I was going to say over 50s - in the over 60s now. Rougn n ready demographics - Average 60yo has a ~30% chance of dying in the next 10 years. Average 70yo has a ~50% chance of dying in the next 10 years. Average 80yo ha a ~90% chance of dying in the next 10 years. A lot of towns and regions are going to have a really hard time clearing probates. Huge issue with housing, esp where IO BTL has seen what would have been 30-40yos housing equity handed to the bank as interest, with the LL skimming £100/m. Headline should read house prices still completely unaffordable for the vast majority of full time workers and yet university students are more interested in Greta than their hopeless futures.
