£100k fine and eviction for AirBnB-ing council flat

Recommended Posts

Some good news for once in today's Times.

Council tenant had been AirbnBing his central London flat since 2013.

Article says that Westminster Council (the one in question) has 1500 council, properties under investigation for illegal sub letting.

24 properties have been recovered in the past year after investigations of fraud.

More well publicised cases - and the huge fines!  - are evidently needed.

The risks of doing this have to be insane. Everyone hates it when a property on their street gets airbnb'd. A council just has to open a grass line (or grass page on their web portal). Oh, and get the job experience person to look for bnb offerings on the social housing estates.

Anyway, awesome news - carry on.

I think I saw a similar situation on BBC's 'Council house crackdown'. Tenant renting his flat in a nice looking block to tourists...maybe for the same amount per week that he was paying the local authority per month!

Cheeky BarStewards.
