Relocation Suggestions

Recommended Posts

It is such a soaring market up here in the n. of Scotland that I am getting quite depressed and seriously thinking of relocating. I cannot see a market correction in the near future if at all!

I need suggestions as to possible towns/cities to relocate to where the buyer is King.

However, I am not interested in hell holes, I am looking for a nice urban spot that affords a pleasant place to live in the UK. If one exists. Preferably with falling house prices.

Serious suggestions only please.

Alba, prior to the last crash my parents were living in NE Scotland. It seemed impossible to consider moving back down to the SE of England again as the difference in the houseprices was enormous (ie they bought their huge 5 bed victorian villa for 60k, whilst 1 bed flats were going for 75k in the SE)

But,

In 1993 they sold their house in the NE for 93k and bought a 4 bed detached in SE England for 78k.

My point?

Last time around, by the time prices started booming in the NE, the crash, down south, was already underway.

I'd say Milton Keynes was well primed for big falls this time. Reason? Because there is a HUGE house building program going on there; loads of starter homes, which are pretty similar and easy to compare on price and a large amount of BTL properties.

So what's happening to the economy in your part of the world Alba - hardly booming is it? What;'s supporting the rise in house prices???? Try Gloucester (city) - though most people I meet seem to hate the place, it offers - interesting history, great countryside, etc.

Gloucester city ewwww. It would be a lovely place if it wasnt for the people, an above average amount of scum there.

Actually nah thinking about it, even without the scum its not that nice. Tewkesbury is a nice place without the people though.

If it happens, Scotland will not be immune, just behind. If anyone cared to look into it, you will probably find that Scotland started to boom a bit later as well. Anyway, I thought you were looking at places to buy in Aberdeen five minutes ago (see 'what are prices doing)? Watch out for AWOOGA allegations!

For goodness sake W&L are normal/serious/straightforward questions not acceptable on this site?

It is akin to waiting for the 'second coming' if you dont spout the perceived wisdom or tell the flock what they want to hear, you are branded an apostate. It is virtually cult like.

I am sorry but there is frenzied activity up here. I don't like it either, hence the question.

In fact it was reading the perceived wisdom on this site that led to the negative position that I am in now. I banked (literally) on there being a downturn up here, significant or otherwise. However, the exact opposite has ensued, and I am paying the price.

If that disturbs 'the flocks' faith, I am sorry but there it is.

If there are HP falls nationwide as this site states over and over, then please provide the information that will help with relocation. However, to reiterate, I am not interested in hell holes.

Sorry Alba - was meant to be tongue in cheek. I have had the same problem on this site - was 'branded' a troll by CrashIsUnderWay. I'm not. I have been lurking since 2002 and am in the same situation as you. Decided to sell too early. What a lesson! I too am depressed (see my post re: 'just fastening noose around neck now...'). I don't think now is the time to be looking at relocation. Prices are artificially high everywhere. If you are desperate, you could look at auctions. I could be getting HPC fatigue - how long have we been waiting now????

What sort of job do you do?

This could be important in deciding where you move to, especially if you have a specialist occupation.
