Add 40K to the Value of Your Home

Recommended Posts

I read it so you don't have to. There's so much wishful thinking going on here.

1. Repaint the front: costs £1,000, adds up to £5,000

2. Do up your door: costs £70, adds up to £1,000

3. Name your home: costs £0, adds up to £5,000

4. Tidy your garden: costs £200, adds up to £5,000

5. Hang mirrors: costs £100, adds up to £1,000

6. Get planning permission: costs £0, adds up to £5,000

7. Kitchen refresh: costs £200, adds up to £5,000

8. Bathroom makeover: costs £2,000, adds up to £7,000

9. Carpet deep clean: costs £30, adds up to £5,000

10. Cash in on your clutter and make a bonus £1,000

Easiest way to increase the property price by 40k, is to increase the price by £40k and sit back and watch the buyers roll in...

......sit back and wait 40 years.;)

Has Spencer in one article made half the nation £40k richer...? Amazing...

Next time in the Daily Fail:

Sad-face because I overpaid by £40k for a house of horrors that had been tarted up with a few licks of paint and some B&Q flowers.

I imagine the "name your house to increase value by £5k" is simply mistaking a correlation for causation. Houses with names tend to be older (bigger) and in a nice area.   adding a name to a house on a crime ridden sink estate will do nothing to the value.

Whenever I see a house with a name I think, "What bellend thought it was a good idea to give that house a name?".

I honestly don't know if this comment is a joke or serious

Quote

People always moan about house prices in the UK but with a quick look on their housing websites, for a 250,000 pound 4 bedroom detached house can be mortgaged for about 1,214 pound a month. How on earth is that not affordable, a 20 year old working for 10 pound an hour could save up for a deposit for that and start paying it if they live at home with a bit of support from their parents. Such moaners over there.

Depends on the house of course - fine for large old houses on their own, any others and it makes the owner look like a pretentious nob (and the older names are more likely to be reasonably descriptive, just to identify the place).
