How Foreigners Deflated the Aussie Property Bubble

Recommended Posts

Quite an interesting article, especially the number of housing starts (~1m over 5 years), which must be about 3x what we have here per head of population.

I'm not sure I buy the idea that the FIRB figures tell the whole story about foreign buyers and established property though. When we were in Sydney (up until 2009) all 4 (established) houses that sold on our road went to Chinese nationals; some moved in, some didn't but they were all recent arrivals. I have no idea how that worked though as far as residency etc was concerned but that small sample suggests to me that there was a huge amount of it going on back then.
