BT cr@p at running servers or massive cyber attack?

Recommended Posts

Since around lunchtime, there seems to be some massive issue with BT DNS resolution.

I was working at home today and found anything needing a URL failed to do anything, including Ping, whilst anything using IP was fine.

In the end, I switched on my ExpressVPN and that solved all the issues.

Basically, BT's DNS has either collapsed or has been hacked. Or is it some new surveillance-ware or are they just removing Huawei kit?

Yes, I've been using ping all day.

It's really rubbish and the BT level 2 said they couldn't report it as a fault.

What I don't get is that switching the default DNS to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4. or 1.1.1.1 etc seems to make no odds. I was assuming it was a DNS server issue, but almost started wondering if it was UDP/TCP related.
