211 agency offices shut during first half of 2018

Recommended Posts

I loved the opening statement:

Shocking figures from the Local Data Company, a consultancy monitoring the health of High Streets, show that 211 estate agency offices closed in the first six months of 2018.

It's only half the story unfortunately, how many opened during the same period?

There's one new company around here that's opened in the last year, with four branches.  Physical shops, not just online.

There's always been churn, 211 across the whole country is approximately nothing.

As admitted in the article, a number of them may be shutting their shop and moving to offices - which would make lots of sense, as they really don't need a shop window any more.  Even when it comes to visiting, e.g. to sign paperwork, perhaps clients would prefer being able to park outside an office instead of pay & display followed by a long walk across some bleak town centre.

I don't think this is the sign that the crash is here, perhaps at best it's further evidence of the death of the traditional high street.  Our local little town's precinct is about to be knocked down and replaced with... flats of course.
