I live in North of Leeds (obviously😆) but I see this all over the place. Flats in my town which are a tad dated can rent for £600 or throw in a chandelier and stags head and they are £1600. Okay, some people may take the £1600 for a little luxury for a few months temporary accommodation but buying is even worse. I have seen houses blinged up and sold for £650k and a neighbouring properties (often Victorian terraces) which are dated but not knackered go for £300k. It’s absolutely frightening and to be brutally frank it’s why I began speculating and buying/selling 20 odd years ago. People seem to be so precious about their time, their family lives, their money and then throw away 15 years of earnings on a roll top bath, wood burner, farrow and ball paint, chalky window shutters and stripped floorboards. I had some reflection time recently and this ‘zombie spending’ is fine if people know what they are doing and know what the true cost is. My brother spends money on technology, to me a waste, but he loves everything he has....I mean loves it. So fair play Effectively too many people waste 15 years of earnings (and I take it from them and retired early) so I shouldn't complain but we need to be more conscious decisions we make. They can spend their money how they want but don’t then bitch about it. My reflection? I ‘zombie eat’ like others ‘zombie spend’. I love my food (or that is what I kid myself) but the reality is munching on a pack of digestives isn’t loving food it’s just a habit. I can eat what I want but shouldn't bitch about being a bit fat. So I don’t judge anyone...but we should try to be conscious about things. It’s a habit I have changed and it’s not natural or easy for me but I weighed up the pro and cons for me...and I wanted to be healthier and leaner. Now I can eat what I want, just not 6 times a day 🐷🐷😆 I think I just went off thread....but diversity of rentals (and sale prices) for the sale properties is a trigger for me 😆😆

I have spent time in the general area during my journey through life. The Deepings (there are several) are so called because they are below sea level. The truth is a lot of Londoners know prices got squeezed to ludicrous heights by ZIRP, QE and a catastrophic excess of demand over supply. They won't be surprised to see greater London prices revert to the historical norm of about 30-50% over UK average (and possibly undershoot in the scramble to exit). But they won't like it and won't acknowledge it - why would they? What have they to gain by admitting that a huge correction is inevitable and drawing attention to it? There are still saps out there, I know of a high earning FTB young couple paying £840k for a leasehold apartment in PCL right now. Not nice for them, but better they lose £300k that's been inherited or otherwise handed to them, than a bunch of JAM families getting a painful financial hit. Have to say though, grudging admiration to those who borrowed large in London 2010ish then cashed in and fled to the shires or coast during the Pandemic. They've essentially made a huge punt, got to live in a nice place in a non stabby bit of the Capital for 10 years, got paid handsomely for it and now live in a smashing house well away from trouble. Well played.

Well played. And spent it all on a house in the shires that's worth about 80% less than they've paid for it based on local wages. I'd have more admiration for them if they'd put all the money into a trust fund in the caymens and f**ked out to live in Thailand. That's the sensible thing to do. When the prices collapse you'll have your ill gotten gains instead of it all disappearing up the pyramid to some rich tory.
