Part of the reason general population in UK is suffering (due to HPI), is that we encourage corrupt money from all countries to flow to us.

I wouldn't argue with that.

The problem is that the prosperity that the City provides is seen as a 'positive' for the country but, as well as propping up and supporting corruption, it only really benefits a small proportion of the UK's population.  It seems to be almost as destructive to the general population as the corrupt politicians and businesses it supports.

i agree. UK turns blind eye to corrupt money. We have all corrupt folks from Russia, Africa, Nigeria, India. Pakistan in UK settled happily with massive money invested in properties and business.

Michael Hudson has some stuff to say bout that - his book 'killing the host' one example. He describes the difference (after Marx most probably although I haven't read Das Kapital) between productive and extractive industry/economies.

The USA and the UK are countries whose economies were handed over lock. stock and barrel to financial speculators in the 80s, under the falsehood (ie lie) that their 'trickle down' wealth effect would benefit us all - HEY we don't need to make anything any more! Of course, wealth concentration is the end result and now speculation, usury and gambling are basically our economic drivers (and war).

Once you've got deceptive nonsense such as 'imputed rent' in your GDP figures (it's a 'product' apparently...), then you know you're in trouble.

Still holding on to the idea - the lie - that the 'trickle down' munificence of the wealthy will provide for us all, y'see. Hence the wealthy are beneficial and should be welcomed, even if they are criminals.

Talk about a bankrupt ideology. Where societies go to die (or become what we condescendingly term 'third world').
