UK Gov's HPI promoting policies spreading misery around the world not only in the UK.

BBC article about 'digital nomads'...high cost of housing in UK driving folks overseas.

"People in the north of Europe earn quite a lot of money, and obviously it's more convenient for them to live here, because it is much cheaper. And also they can have a better quality of life because of the weather, the beach, etc," he says.

He argues that the digital nomads, earning North European wages and living in the cheap south, is forcing up house prices, turning family homes into holiday lets and driving out the locals who can no longer afford to live in the centre of Lisbon.

They also feel guilty about the effect they and thousands of other digital nomads are having on the local economy.

Agustin Cocola-Gant from the University of Lisbon has been studying the changes among the local Portuguese population of having thousands of digital nomads turning up on their doorsteps.

"They see people coming from the north of Europe, that don't speak Portuguese, who are taking their places. The shops, the stores are changing, they're losing the places where they meet with their friends and neighbours."

This has been happeneing  clusters of Northern England for years..

Yes two friends of mine have moved northwards from Hampshire...one 200 miles to Cheshire and another 100 miles to Worcestershire...inevitable really.  Not great for elderly parents etc that get left behind.

Everything is just an invention.. If any government wanted to, they could fix house price problems with the stroke of a pen..

There is nothing accidental about housing problems.. It’s just slavery for the modern age, without the obvious chains..

Do they honestly think it's  just them?

Foreign buyers have been pushing up prices in and around London - and rippling out elsewhere - since the 70s.  It started with the oil rich Arabs, and has gone on more and more ever since.

It is often the nicer places to live are not the most expensive places to live.....that is why the wealthy

live in the better places, the places they don't actially have to work in.......they rent out for an income in places  where people require to work for a living.;)

how?

That seems a very narrow minded response..

Except for the physical aspects of this planet, trees, plants, animals..

Everything else is invented, It is invented to create winners and losers, slaves and masters..

The richest are hardly ever the smartest, they are the greediest, the most ruthless.. and also they tend to be in the correct circles of associates.. I found in my career the people at the top of the company were really thick in comparison to myself even.. I know of 6 people that worked at my company who were all well paid, but were there as they were mates/family of the directors..

There is nothing we can’t change, we could just scrap every law if we wanted, divide the land equally between the people, give everyone free money and only work to produce what we need, not what we want..

greed is a cancer that’s destroying what is real, the planet ? .. everything else is just made up..

Yes but some of the EU member governments (ie the UK) have a policy of inflating the price of housing and therefore making life a misery for young people and others without property assets - forcing them away from home and overseas.  Why would Portugal anticipate such a malign UK gov policy...and knock on distortions of their housing market, economy and social cohesion?

Psychopaths and sociopaths, despite their expert manipulation, ruthless drive, and confident charm, are often nowhere near as intelligent as they first seem and that's true of even "successful" ones that stay within the boundaries of the law.

By 90%, I mean the majority of the UK stay put and put up with it.

If they did do best, and legged it, then - bang! housing problem solved instantly.

Most brits dont move far from where they born, not FT

As banks create 97% of the money supply when they make loans out of nothing, they need  people  to continue in debt slavery.

The money doesn't exist in the first place but the profits from the interest they get to keep. They thank you for slaving away to pay off a debt that was created on a computer screen.

Yeah...sure you're right...no issue with the UK housing market that might encourage folk to move overseas.

Really is a non story. People have been moving around the world to live since day dot. The vast majority of young British people stay put however and certainly do not go off to live in another country because of the cost of housing here. Besides, doesn't matter where you go, there's problems of some sort that you can't escape.

+1

And also no council homes or housing benefit in the South East to people who don't work there for 30+ hours (maybe a 6 month period of grace for people who lose their jobs).

I have never seen a story like this about immigrants in the UK causing prices to rise and locals not being able to live in parts of London.

Good point, of course you wouldn't expect this angle from the BBC...but I don't think many of the immigrants in the UK were driven out of their home countries due to the price of housing..?
