Nazi dog guy

Recommended Posts

For those who have not been following the fortunes of Count Dankula, amateur comedian with huge following on YouTube...

As a prank he taught his girlfriend's cute  dog to raise its paw in a nazi salute. Went down well on yt but then he got prosecuted for hate speech etc.

Guy comes across as a bit of a canute on a personal level in my opinion but a lot of people think this is a fundamental attack on free speech if you can risk jail (he only got fined) for a joke.

Him leaving court yesterday, well worth watching just to see humiliation of slimy Sky News reporter.

Crowd funding going on for landmark appeal to set a precedent.

That was good to see.

How can a journo sink so low as to accuse this chap of being sympathetic to the Nazi cause and bring up the holocaust?

Sky News need to sack him as well as 'Teflon' Kay Burley.

I would implore anyone who cares about defending freedom of speech and fighting the onslaught of authoritarian laws to donate and help overturn this egregious example of thought-policing.

Bunged him a tenner. He's  nob, but he shouldn't have faced this legal attack because of nobbery!

Way past 100k now, freedom of speech is too important for this ridiculous so-called-law to be used (or misused) for this reason.

One of the surprising things about this episode is how few pro comedians have defended him. I think only David Baddiel (Jewish himself) and Rickey Jervais have said he shouldn't be prosecuted for such jokes that use Nazis as comedy props.  (Whether or not it is a good joke is another very subjective matter.)

The Father Ted writer Graham Linehan has been attacking Meecham's on twitter and basically advocating sabotaging Meecham/Dankula's appeal by snitching on him to GoFundMe. Which seems illogical as if Meecham's conviction is sound he'll lose the appeal, and if it's not then a dangerous precedent has been avoided. Ironically Linehan himself wrote an episode of Father Ted that had Ted mimicking Hitler.

Stupid waste of public funds and police resources.

The reaction of the 'mainstream' comedy community has been risible - they of all people should value the right to offend in the name of humour but it appears many so called comedians are little more than PC apologists, desperately trying to pander to popular opinion to appear 'right thinking' and keep the money rolling in from lucrative TV appearances.
