lostinessex
Rhik Samadder usually writes amusing reviews of bizarre kitched gadgets for the Guardian - but here he is summing up my general feelings on BTL landlords https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/apr/16/landlords-social-parasites-last-people-should-be-honouring-buy-to-let?CMP=share_btn_tw

ubuntu
great rant and so true, can see from the comments some of the champagne socialist guardianista btlers getting their knickers in a twist
mattyboy1973
Expect a lot more of this in the media as the new generation comes through. Generally low paid, often freelance work often based in big cities - I suspect that the vast majority of sub 40 year old journalists are renting. How many journalists want to promote btl and HPI when sharing a place with random people after spending years to get into the profession. Only concern is that the priced-out generation need to get to high positions as they have the most influence- resisting the tide can be difficult. UnconventionalWisdom
What's needed is for not just young people to have this viewpoint but the wider society. If parents, grandparents and employers all go against landlords then there's political pressure to change things. At the minute too many people do not understand the advantages LLs have over OO such as interest only mortgages and no need for income requirements (other than the received rent) Edited April 16, 2018 by UnconventionalWisdom
Riedquat
Imagine how satisfyingly overcrowded the underworld must be with landlords; partitioning the seventh circle into seven more circles, charging each other extra for underfloor heating

Funn3r
Wow he really unloaded on LLs didn't he. From the tone of the article it didn't sound like a journalistic investigation, more like a rant from someone who has been personally fecked over by parasite crabs scumbags benevolent providers of accomodation. longgone
Journo`s must be reading their own literature. The vernacular of sheltering plebs seems to be doing a 180.
Sour Mash
Seems to be more a case of yet another SJW article from the Guardian rather than an actual serious assessment of the corrosiveness of HPI and taking a stance against it ... even if the end result is the same. Still - more grist to the mill.
Arpeggio
If everyone in the world disappeared except Landlords. They would have to look after themselves. If all Landlords in the world disappeared people would continue looking after themselves and it would be easier to do so. Same as many other host / parasite comparisons. Land is the host, people are the red blood cells, the two of which can live in on, on their own. Landlords are the leech.
