dyfarnwr
Whilst out in Cardiff today, thought I’d take a look in House of Fraser. Dead wouldn’t even begin to describe it. More staff than customers; most staff there just chatting amongst themselves as they had nothing to do. Up to 60% red sale signs everywhere but still clothes managed to be mostly over the £60 mark for stuff that isn’t really that nice. Who the hell is their target market? After the bust there was a massive parody fückedcompany, com where people made semi-serious bids on the next company to go under, along with some great offtopicness. All gone now I think but the shattered remains were pulled together by the diehards and are now at f2bbs,com and unit587,com I have munged the addresses to avoid any accidental link clickiness arising, as these are nsfw and definitely for mature audiences.

HoF always seems like a cross between John Lewis and Debenhams to me. They have got the prices and a lot of the brands to match John Lewis, but the merchandising and stores themselves have that 1980s department store feel that Debenhams have never got rid of. Craig_
HoF going under would be catatrophic for Edinburgh's main drag, as there's one at either end! (technically one of them is Jenners, but it was taken over by HoF a few years back and turned into their horrible concession setup).

Fairyland
Toys R Us UK goes into administration Quote Toys R Us has gone into administration, putting 3,000 UK jobs at risk. Moorfields has been appointed to begin "an orderly wind-down" of the UK's biggest toy retailer. The corporate recovery specialist said that all stores would remain open until further notice. My thoughts are with the employees who face uncertain future. Edited February 28, 2018 by Fairyland

You go in and it's like Willy Wonka's factory with smiling young staff and toys being played with, lots of sounds and colour. It's a genuinely fun experience, and is located next to all the other shops mum and dad will be going to. Toys R Us are located in industrial business parks that you have to drive to with lots of depressing aisles. No footfall and no personality. It's really night and day.

Option5
High street woe to continue with Prezzo: reports Restaurant chain Prezzo plans to close up to one-third of its 300 outlets across Britain, according to a report on Sky News. It says Prezzo is preparing to launch a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) in the coming days in order to push through a radical overhaul of the chain. The closure plan will reportedly affect roughly 100 Prezzo-owned outlets and involve the complete closure of its Tex-Mex chain Chimichanga. hayder
I'd expect a whole load of retailers to go under this year. It could be the retail apocalypse that's been building up for years. Furniture, Electronics, Clothing, Shoes, Toiletries, Cafes, Restaurants... pretty much everything. I'd expect more Bank branches and Estate Agents to shutter too. IMHO when this all blows over, there will be just the Supermarket chains and a few larger cheap burger places left. Retail leases will collapse followed by a surge in charity shops / charity cafes / charity "socialising venues" , charity "book shops" / charity "music venues" / just to keep places occupied will pop up. Which IMHO is a good thing. The high street will change for the better. The freeholders will get reamed. TOWIU.
hayder
http://www.ethicalproperty.org.uk/content.aspx?CategoryID=532 Soon, freeholders will be so desperate to avoid rates that the only people that can get hold of properties are "charities" - who are exempt from rates.
