Leaving my flat unnocupied, I prefer than rent...

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am totally into house price crash and think it will happen soon.

I actually own a small flat (no mortgage etc). I have a contract for a year in another part of the UK.

I just want to say, the more I look into renting it out, the more I don't want to. Ie regulations, nightmare tenants etc.

I feel like I am compelled to rent it due the obsession with houses in the media etc.

For me, I feel if I leave it, I can go back to it whenever I want, can got to it in my holidays, can let friends and family visit it.

It would be stressful enough renting it out, but I have no idea how people can have a buy to let, be eyeballed in debt and have to pay for all the overheads too. Crazy¬

Sure, I have to pay council tax and insurance but houses should be for living on not trying to make a fast buck.

Anyway, just saying! All the best.

I nearly bought a Docklands flat in the early 90s, when they were cheap as chips. Had I done so, I would have kept it as London base and would not have let it out. In the end I decided not to as I didn't really need a London base, it just sounded fun at the time.

Leaving it empty may invalidate your insurance, many policies require you to spend at least one night there every 2 or 3 months.

In case the building burns to the ground, you would want a receipt of something eg train ticket to prove you were there.
