Phil Spencer : Find Me A Home - Ch4

Recommended Posts

Interesting program. Showed the crying need for long term tenancies in the private rental sector to be made law. 5-7 yr renewable by the tenant. Get rid of the amateurs.

Funniest moment?  At end of program Southwark council propels Phil's clients to the top of their housing list. Hilarious!!!

Funniest? :| I only saw a couple of minutes around that point and almost wrote off the TV. My wife and I have been working and saving like mugs for about fifteen years now. Swimming against the tide. Where's our f*cking house then?

+ 1. It was good to see Phil tackle this issue. With this programme and the Grenfell Tower tragedy I hope it will cajole the government into taking the provision of social housing much more seriously.

I think the mother and son in Kent did the right thing by going for the house in Tonbridge. Waiting for a council house would have been a bit of a lottery. I just hope they have a long term tenancy and they both need stability.

Yeah  the other couple in Southwark getting propelled to the top of the list was a bit 'convenient'. Nevertheless, with a child they should have been top priority for a 2 br property anyway. I can't believe they were paying £903 a month for that shitty cockroach infested flat! <_< But good luck to 'em in their new home.

The 'community land trusts' option looks very interesting. :)

I was shocked to see Phil in there - the MSM wind is definitely starting to blow in the right direction.

Sorry, I was being sarcastic. Thought that moment was a real kick to anyone on the council waiting list in Southwark. Sad state of affairs when it requires a tv star to get one a roof over their heads.

I too was flabbergasted when they said they paid £903 / month for that shithole and no HB.

Even Phil used the word "shit" to describe it.....

Phil S isn't my cup of tea given his previous shows and the fact he's been pumping HPI on tv for a generation, but he was honest enough to admit he was shocked by what he found at the bottom end of the council/PRS for housing. Said it was the hardest job he'd had,  to find them a roof.

The tide is indeed turning in the MSM.

And no Kirsty in sight?

No, thankfully. I don't think this type of program could be made with her "starring" in it..........she's got no empathy for the working classes imo.

They say after his experience on the road to Damascus, Saul apparently completely changed his ways. Maybe Phil will be a champion now.

I'll wager that will be only the case IF, somehow or another, there's money in it for him. I'll be the first to congratulate him IF that turns out not to be the case, but I won't hold my breath - I just can't see that particular self-serving leopard changing his spots.

Yeah apologies, that thought crossed my mind too.

I was stunned at the charge for living with cockroaches and rats. A real bargain with the council being a slum lord.

That's the thing about lunatic politicians, front line is the only thing that matters when something is shoved in their face, add a camera and they act

Real crocodile tears from an unprincipled Phil.   He's the man whose happy to be the paid voiceover on landlord insurance adverts - which may cause the type of issues he now discoverers in the programme, such as not permitting landlords to rent to those on benefits.

Switching sympathies now the market is in decline, are you Mr Spencer?
