Mrs Bear

Venezuelan nightmare

Recommended Posts

Have just been talking to a Venezuelan neighbour (married to a European and has been here for ages) - she has elderly parents in Caracas  and is worried sick about them.  Food so scarce and expensive - a piece of cheese at £30 - her mother has lost 12 kg since they can only eat once a day.  She is trying to get her mother over here for a couple of months but she doesn't have a passport and she can't even get out to the office to apply for one, because of riots and tear gas.

Awful.

My Venezuelan neighbour reports similar. He wants to get his mother out but she is torn as she is the bread winner for her family there. Very under reported in the MSM.

why do you think ?

So the proles don't get ideas? Surely we can have independent journalism capable of independent thought?!

I don't know about under-reported - there's a huge article + analysis and a leader n today's Times.  I also often hear a fair bit on the World Service at night, though that is hardly MSM, I know.

Mr B has a young relative who's married to a Venezuelan.  They live in London and she hasn't been back for 8 years because of the situation.  Even then she didn't take her husband because his colouring meant he'd stand out as too obviously foreign and thus a kidnap risk.

i saw "printing money like confetti" mentioned i wonder if the proles as you call them will put 2 and 2 together?      Boe, Carney,0.25%,wedding confetti,QE HPI , Rothschild ,bilderberg.

The only real independence you have is your breakfast choice once you analyse all the variables. But don`t forget variables can be changed if the proles start to get wise, or in this case think they are wise. then the powers that be, can appear to give power back to proles to satisfy and level out any new anger.

That`s what voting is really making the proles think they have power.

I see murdoch is trying to up his stake in sky again.

Terrible indictment of poor government in an otherwise oil-rich country. I hope she'll be fortunate enough to escape.

are you talking about scotland under the SNP?

Could just as easliy be venezuela but without the sunshine and miss world contestants.

I went to Caracas in 2001, sad to see it go downhill. Yes in those days they had issues with poverty in the immigrant communities living in slums, but now the whole place is suffering.

I do somewhat worry that this is what Brexit may have in store when combined with a future Corbyn Government unrestrained by the Civilising effects of European Law.

I do somewhat worry that the EU has failed to civilise many EU countries who are far lower down the transparency and rule of law tables than the UK.

Indeed the idea of uk people getting a professional job in most of the eu states is a total joke. Italian academia is currently being invesigstated by the mafia police as nearly all the top jobs are occupied by a few families.

I would worry rather more about the EU's future(re-past) approach to "civilising" other countries.

I've been told two twice by different Italians that it's nigh on impossible to get a good job in Italy unless you know someone.

One was an architect working in the aid sector, the other a tri-lingual accountant working in the U.K.

The architect went on to say that you are judged  in the  workplace largely on your clothes, brand and cost of. I was a bit sceptical about this but he insisted that they size up the brand/cost of everything - ' Even your belt!'

so do I. Interesting hypothesis here about what Corbyn really has planned:

https://musealoudblog.wordpress.com/2017/06/27/why-is-corbyn-pro-brexit/

seems to suggest he is convincing votes we will have a scandinavian socialist style system, when what he actually intends could indeed end in the nightmare they have in Venezuela.

The mess in Venezuela is largely stoked up by US sponsored NGOs to get rid of the current government in order to replace it with a neocon government.

Nothing new really, same strategy as ever by the US. It's all about allowing US corporations to exploit the resources of other countries.

Your best bet t bailing out people would be to fly them to a beighbouring country and pay them to stsy there.

Or, fly them to spain and get a cheap apartment.

How does the country function? The guy I have been dealing with has the attitude "my father is a professor and there is nothing you can tell me about academia". Problem is he is as thick as two short planks. We suspect his father Is pulling strings left right and centre to help the guy tho he has retired no thank goodness. I am quite worn out by it and all I do is apply some norms of morality. I was asked to deal with the appointment of a technician and a colleagues wife applied (British). I felt uncomfortable about it and passed the job to a Chinese colleague who promptly appointed the wife of his Chinese mate to the job. For f**ks sake. I sometime feel I the only one with a modicum of morality left.

This doc was horrifying ..
