That's why it's called "clickbait". They're baiting you into clicking it. It sounds so strange that it can't be true...or can it? By the time you've realised that they were wasting your time, they've already (supposedly) displayed their 1000 ads and made loads of $$$$ (yeah, right, as if adblock didn't exist...)

I want a job designing click bait...it would be great fun. All those odd pics that catch your eye and learning what works and what does not will be a great insight into human nature.

I would think lies like in this case would be short sighted approach for the website.

It's called being a journalist. You can get one anytime, but don't expect more than 21k in the beginning.

Not at all. Most sites using clickbait are very successful and have been for a long time.

I would expect them normally to say housing market drop or slump...that can cover both prices and transaction volumes
