Shire Rentals

Recommended Posts

Just looked at rentals in Northants for the first time in a long time and I am shocked at the prices and what's available.

Used to see 4 bed places up for rent at approx £800 ( maybe 4 years ago ) now seeing them at £1200 ( 50% increase ).

Some crap houses in crap areas now looking for £1600+

Terraced houses all being advertised as student lets at £2000 per month !!!! (HMOs effectively).  The tennants should all be demanding at 70% rent cut !!!

So as a 40% tax payer you need to spend £30K of your income ( before tax ) just to rent a house.

Holy f**k, this country is a mess.

For the record, we pay £1350 in London for a run-down 3-bed in the grotty bit of SW16, so those prices look very OTT (and rents are - slowly - falling around here).

At least in London there's no end of mugs willing to pay those prices, round here tho, not sure they have the same demand.

Did a property bee on it so will log in 2 months from now and see how many of them are unrented ( all of them  ).

In Kent and Sussex rents have been increasing a lot but I am seeing a lot of stuff reduced lately and some coming on at lower rents. Some are just barmy:

Its a lovely house in a lovely place but the rent is about the average salary in the area. Nowadays a 3 bed house in Kent seems to be £900 minimum but more like £1000+

Is this due to Cambridge fallout? London commuters? (and I've obviously got Stockholm Syndrome, because a quick browse of Northampton 3 and 4 bed rentals had me drooling).
