Letter for Letting Agent

Recommended Posts

So last week I had a letter from a neighbour's letting agent politely telling me that the car parking space to the front of the property are part of their property and having parked there if I do it again I'd be breaking the law (and the consequences...)

Having checked this it turns out it's absolute nonsense and I'm not particularly happy about some letting agent writing what I see to be threatening letters when they aren't even correct.

Are they allowed to write such letters to people and is there any recourse?

Cheers

First thing to do is to download the deeds( plus plans) for your own house and that of your neighbours. Use the official land registry site as the cost is £3 per document. This will tell you whether there is any substance to their claim. Assuming there is not, a letter to the senior partner pointing out their mistake ( with a request that they acknowledge that they accept the position) should be sufficient without getting heavy.

If I received that letter I would go to the letting agent's office (with letter) and tell him/her in no uncertain terms that they are wrong until they get the message.

When you say "car parking space", do you mean the bit of the public road outside their house? If so, no. They don't own it.

If threatened with legal action in a situation where you know you are in the right, a good response ends with the line "I leave you to take whatever action you deem necessary".

It sounds to me like the letting agent has let the house with allocated off road parking and now find themselves in the position of losing the tenant. In this case, on the surface of it, I have equal sympathy for the tenant and the OP.

Don't download the title deeds......demand THEY download them and show you. They are making the claims about parking, not you. If it is public road, they do NOT own it
