The War Sweepstake Thread

Recommended Posts

Plenty of noise about war looming, the question is who will it be.  For the sake of clarity war in this context will mean ground forces involved.

After the success of Iraq and Afghanistan it seems our great leaders are itching for another conflict, so where will they decide to go and liberate this time?

Obvious choices appear to be Syria and North Korea, although I'm sure there are plenty more conflicts which could be nicely escalated up to "require" the necessary intervention.

We could go for double's with the US engaging in Syria with China liberating North Korea.

They who must be obeyed unthinkingly ever need something to take our minds off the terrorism here...my vote goes to a UK coalition with China and the US, not sanctioned by the UN, to wipe North Korea from the face of the earth. [Best not to upset more Arab countries in case our oil dries up.

I want to bet on war, but can't decide on my hedging strategy.

Option 1. Bet on War.
If there is war, I win.
If there is no war, everybody wins, including me.
So a win-win strategy..

Option 2. Bet on No War.
If there is no war, I win.
If there is war, no matter, we're all dead anyway.

I think tech has advanced so much, wherever it is, it won't look much like any war we've ever seen before.

It'll all be remote viewing and drones.

So I've got an each way bet on Sir Killalot with Kim Jong Un ending up in the pit of doom.

North Korea Nukes Syria, then sends a crack team of assassin comat specialist cyborgs to hunt down all of Al qaeda and ISIS, this brings peace over the world.

The Assassins then win over the hearts of the world by releasing a series of cooking books and TV shows, spreading the lovethe NK was never able to show before hand

NK would do us all a favour if they send a crack team of assassin combat specialist cyborgs to hunt down all of the 'elites'  that constantly threaten the world with war.

What would a war between north Korea and the US look like?

Also if it went nuclear, would we be affected in Europe?

The aim of the 'elites' is to drag the whole northern hemisphere into a nuclear WWW3 while they themselves sit comfortably in NZ and watch 90% of the human population die.

They have been planning for this for years:

But don't worry, it won't happen. Their plans are way too exposed and out in the open to succeed.

WWW3 will never happen, if a local scuffle breaks out it will not last and certainly won't turn nuclear.

US Deploys Two More Aircraft Carriers Toward Korean Peninsula: Yonhap

nimitz%20%281%29.jpg

According to a report by South Korea's primary news outlet, Yonhap, the Pentagon has directed a total of three US aircraft carriers toward the Korean Peninsula, citing a South Korean government source.

Would you put several aircraft carriers in one location just for bluff?  If the report is legit.

How do aircraft carriers defend themselves? I would have thought even the NKoreans would have the ability to launch missiles and torpedoes at them.

If attacked I doubt the North Koreans are going to waste their military resources in a direct fight with technically superior forces such as U.S. aircraft carriers they cannot win. They are more likely to respond against US ground forces based in South Korea. If I was North Korean commander with the 5th largest land army at my disposal I would want my troops across the South Korean border getting close up and personal with the U.S. and South Korean armies as quickly as possible after being attacked. I would also want my troops mixed with the population of the South to ensure any U.S. response involves as much collateral damage to their allies as possible. I would want to ensure the U.S. forces took early heavy casualties  to remind the U.S. public of the cost of conflict. I would then go for a war of attrition which I would hope cause the U.S. to rapidly run through its stockpile of expensive military toys (likely to happen faster than many realise) and  would eventually drag Chinese public opinion including the Chinese military into the fray against the western imperialist aggressor. Whether the Fat Boy in charge of NK has the wit to conduct such a response is another matter. I think the Chinese would want him rubbed out by his own military first if at all possible as he and his family are seen as a liability now.

Quite an interesting article on NK recent military parade on Saturday here in the Diplomat

http://thediplomat.com/2017/04/north-koreas-2017-military-parade-was-a-big-deal-here-are-the-major-takeaways/

Worth noting that while some of the missile technology being displayed was unproven the large number of tracked TELS was just as significant. The main point being that they would make it much harder for the U.S. to eliminate that capability on a first strike. Some of the missiles seen on Saturday such as designs based on the Soviet era OTR-21 are proven weapons that have been deployed to some effect by Yemenis fighting the Saudi coalition
