From the report:

Quote

“It is unclear what is driving the increase in private renting amongst older households. However, it is interesting to note that these age groups have also seen a decline in the proportion of people owning with a mortgage and an increase in those owning their homes outright. This suggests a growing divide between property ‘haves’ and ‘have-nots’.”

Between their April 2013 annual report and their September 2016 interim results, Nationwide added £9.8bn worth of BTL mortgages to their loan book.

They now have a total £30bn of BTL mortgages on the books at an LTV of 59% - £50bn worth of property and therefore roughly 250,000 homes. The 2015-2016 English Houses Survey says there are 22.8 million households in England. If all the Nationwide mortgages were in England roughly one house in a every hundred would be a Nationwide funded BTL. If they were distributed evenly if would be about one home on every street.

Just as well all that NW BTL is not in London/SE.
