A FIRM that had been in business for 112 years has closed, making 140 workers redundant.

Frank and Whittome joiners, one of Faversham's oldest firms, went into administration on Tuesday and the jobs were lost with immediate effect.

Tripos Discovery Research Ltd of Bude is to reduce its workforce by almost half from 163 to 86 in a massive cutback. The company, based on Bude-Stratton Business Park, says it has been forced to reduce its workload after re-evaluating its resource requirements in the light of ongoing contracts and the successful completion of a four-year, 90 million dollar project with Pfizer Inc.

MAJOR parts manufacturer and supplier to the car industry has cut around 140 jobs at its only British plant in Wrexham.

BOS Automotive makes parcel racks, boot covers and luggage nets for most car manufacturers and suppliers including Ford, Toyota, Faurecia, Fiat and General Motors.

I wonder if this is a delayed trickle down effect of the high fuel price?

Which of course leads to a greater perceived cost of motoring. Such accessories would surely be the first to suffer reduced sales

LONDON, Jan 26 (Reuters) - British retail bank Alliance & Leicester Plc (AL.L: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Thursday it would seek about 350 voluntary redundancies in 2006 at a cost of 20 million pounds ($36 million) to 25 million pounds.
