Check Out This Ebay Auction

An eBay auction offering a weekend in Sydney full of blokes, beers, fun and snags took bids of up to $195 before it was mysteriously pulled from the site on Wednesday.

A spokesman said that the company had suspended the auction for a short while during the day to determine whether it breached existing rules, but had later reinstated it.

While the boozy, blokey weekend offer did not breach its rules, the auction site said eBay was "much more about everyday consumer items".

Prior to its suspension a total of 32 bids had been received from the likes of "girthymanrod" and "chookerelli" totalling $195 after an initial bid of $1 was posted last Friday. The auction was due to finish early next week.

Bidders were vying for the services of the four blokes who had promised to act as their best friends for the whole weekend.

"We won't fly you here. Heck, we won't even pay for your bus fare. What we WILL do is guarantee you some beers, some snags, some good conversation and a hell of a lot of laughs," the eBay advertisement says.

They had also offered to throw in a mystery celebrity guest [maybe] from the UK for the weekend due to take place on February 18 and 19.

Because it was suspended, bidding in the reinstated auction had to start over again on Wednesday and will conclude in ten days.

An eBay spokesman said the auction had been suspended because on first impression "it was a bit out of the ordinary", but on further consideration decided to allow it.

Unusual transactions have achieved a certain notoriety on eBay. Last year UK band The Darkness bought back their own CD for $769 from eBay to prevent pirates from getting hold of it, and in the US, slices of toast displaying the likeness of the Virgin Mary and Michael Jackson were auctioned the site.

Earlier this month the student behind the Million Dollar Website auctioned the remaining 1000 pixels from his webpage for $US38,000.

Less than a day to go now (20hrs) The auction soared as high as $16 million AUD, about 6 million pounds. But after steadily extracting/cancelling the fake bids & a round of sensible bid retractions (see the bidding history to understand), the auction has now been reduced to $1,300/550pounds. Maybe a little more bid retracting will go on & they might have enough money to buy a few snags, some beers and will have a few laughs about it.....:lol:

I bet those boys little mental cachings were going off in their heads when the bidding was way up there. I hope they didn't count their chickens before they hatched & spend up to their credit limits in anticipation of their newly flowing wealth.....
