Not saying you are wrong (because you are not) but does this mean if this is 2x income now....it is still not a fair reflection of true value? And therefore there is no housing affordable crisis in the uk other than those hot spots (eg London, Cities) which isn't therefore a crisis but a reflection of demand in fashionable spots that people could actually just live away from and commute into town? Watch location, location, zzzzzz, this week and one buyer wanted 'the London vibe' 'a village feel' ie near a laundrette, pub, coffee bar, cafes and waitrose.....the exact place we avoided 30 years ago. I get the appeal. However, paying £350k for a flat to be near the buzz when a flat 1 mile away in a leafy 'dead' area which is twice the size was then made to be so unappealing Not my view by the way....affordability in the Yorkshire golden triangle is a mare for locals and I want to see it drop. I just think that places like Cumbria shouldn't be £20k they should be more reflective of local wages ie a tad higher. Or are things really that bad in the outstandingly beautiful locations? Note - this isn't a challenge but more trying to understand how we argue there is an affordability crisis when we then argue houses should be 1x local wages. Ive probably said the same for those mining villages around Doncaster which sell for £30k despite being well built Victorian houses. I am lucky....decent earner but can work from home other than maybe 1 day in northern city a month and 1 day in London. Effectively a London based financial firm but very few go there due to web cams and the need to be in back to back meetings scattered across the UK. So I live in a town for families, so Starbucks, pubs and bars can all stay a decent mile or so away Maybe if I lived in one of these Cumbrian spots (or Doncaster villages) I might get it more....I guess I am lucky I don't. Lots of mention also on this thread about some London properties not selling....guess I am less surprised about those. Lots of demand but who really can afford to commit to a lifetime of wage slavery just to Live in a one bedder. I guess everything back to around 1996 levels plus maybe a modest wage inflators gain since then and I will be happy....and that include North and South

Lots of demand but who really can afford to commit to a lifetime of wage slavery just to Live in a one bedder. I guess everything back to around 1996 levels plus maybe a modest wage inflators gain since then and I will be happy....and that include North and South It really depends on supply (houses for sale) and demand (people with mortgages) People want to move to the golden triangle. People want to move *out* of Middlesbrough - even with MBC filling the place up with scum from 4 corners of the world, the population is falling, which just causes more locals - and recent locals - to want to leave more. Before BTL lunancy, which is going away, there were a large number of areas where 2up/3 down traded at ~1x UK mean salary. Places like the one in CUmbria *have* bubbled up by IOB TL loons chasing the HB. Remove IO BTL loons and these places will go back to ~30k. Its not just terraces in ex industrial towns. Go to Scarborough. Even today - where the prices are inflated - even if the transaction are not - and there are some nice, big places where you can buy 2nd hand (or 3rd 4th ...) for less than it would cost to build the house - throwing in the land for free. Again, check the local populations and income. In Scabbies case, the medium wage is what you get from the DSS. And people are no longer retiring to the sea. A big change in the supply/demand. Im with Durhmaborn on this - get your daughter working as a nurse, progressing. Get her to buy 5 years in at less than 3x income And she'll own the house by the tie sges 45. spyguy
Depends on hwo's making the decision to put a house inot Auction. Its Mr + Mrs Make a priceup, then itll go in with a high reserve and no sale. Or, if its the case I know recently, its the bank wanting its money back, so force the building into auction with the reserve set to the money owed + 10%.
