Let's have a rent strike.

Recommended Posts

Was very successful in the 1920s I believe,  helped bring in rent control and lifetime tenancies.

£55-65/wk housing benefit rate for under 35s where I live. Single room in a terraced house + bills included is all you can get for that.

I reckon I could afford up to £400 a month rent only, for my own flat, if I top up HB with my income. Most people under 40 where I live seem to be in a similar situation.

But out of the 149 properties up for rent within 10 miles of my location (on rightmove) there are 6 or so £400 or under. Yes many are being reduced but a £475 to £450 reduction is still no use. I imagine it's similar across the country. We need big drops.

A rent strike might push the BTLers out faster than a HPC.

Let's do this.
