Infantilization of adults

Recommended Posts

It's the "sleep" thing that sounds like infantilisation, although it's true that it also manifests itself in "want more! want more! want more!" no responsibility whatsoever fling-it-all-on-debt attitude.

Actually I think they were just being comical, no harm done.

Real infantilising of adults would be something like the decision to remove the adult rate of housing benefit from 25+ year olds and put it to 35+ instead. Notice that only works both ways though - I'm sure I was paying tax on my Saturday job when I was 17... but can't get 'adult rate' benefits until my mid 30s. Grrrr.

When we start seeing signs in shops saying you now have to prove you are over 35 to buy alcohol we'll know that the govt has completely lost it.

The infantilization of society from both government and the commercial sector is rife.

I seem to remember a report on State Controlled Television a few weeks ago into a study that claimed the age of criminal responsibility should be raised to something like the mid-20s, because apparently peoples brains aren't fully developed till then!

And some people's brains never seem to develop from 'I'm entitled innit'

Indeed - thought the same.

Some people need to do the maths. How can pay £3k a year in tax for a few years entitle you to free health care, LHA, Jon seekers allowance etc for some indefinite period.

They definitely need a contributions based system, and a cap on the duration of many benefits.

Happens due to no financial independence, living like students and inability to afford a family well into 30s.

Then you realise it's not all bad and enjoy the ride.
