libspero
Quote ‘Non-conventional’ porn will be banned from all websites in the UK, BBFC warns Quote Under the new law, every porn site would have to verify the age of its users Quote Basically, we’ll be back to what could be shown on DVDs – but applied to the web, the Guardian warns. NJT123
It should be harder to get access to unlimited hardcore pr0n. I am glad I had my childhood of pics and magazines throughout my teenage years. And they were rare occurrences. To be 11 and with a click of a mouse see everything and anything the world has to offer – limitless and in HD… Hmmm, doesn’t sit right with me. What's the justification for filtering adults?

With respect though, there's already provision for that. Most ISPs already offer pron blocks if you ask. So does the software on most phones / tablets too. In fact you don't even have to know too much, for example on Vodafone it's blocked by default, you can't access sexual sites, but if you go in and do a google image search it's all there. I'd agree you don't want younger kids exposed to it, also I'd say even teenagers really given the nature of some of the material and the lack of context. I think there is only a limited amount you can do as a parent, I've no doubt if I was a teenager (12 or so) then I'd have no trouble accessing it regardless of what filters my parents might have set up (in terms of my knowledge of technology at that age and how that would apply today). Regardless this is all aimed at the UK market which is a total irrelevance.
dgul
When I read stories like this I do wonder what world the authors live in... or, perhaps, what world they see the readers living in... The idea that you can just send a note out to all the websites to say 'put in our age verification system' is nonsense, beyond a trivial few based in the UK. Playing devils advocate then, you are saying that a child can easily get around tablets set up with google safe search and ISP filtering.. in that case presumably the new set of restrictions will be equally futile when they all set up VPNs? In which case why impose authoritarian dated sexual ideologies on everyone else? This seems to be about more than "won't someone think of the children". The idea seems to be that UK.GOV would just blacklist any non-conforming sites, UK ISPs would have no choice but to comply. You would end up with a handful of UK based sites, with a full creditcard subscription service offering a limited selection of material that would be inoffensive enough to keeps the feminazis, religious leaders and other small government pressure groups happy. I was sort of saying they were pissing in the wind. My point was an answer to the question of "why are they doing this", to which the answer is that no amount of filters or locks for kids is going to stop them seeing it, therefore the only answer is to ban it (or effectively ban it) completely. Which of course is totally futile on a number of fronts and only yet again demonstrates that the powers that be don't get the internet or the digital landscape. It's not about actually doing something, it's about being seen to do something. For clarification it's not something I agree with at all.

The farce being that there are very few if any UK based sites. Even the ones that seem like they are will be based overseas.

Sounds like when I worked at BT back in the 90s - they blocked pron on their network and had a team in India who visited sits and decided what the add to the filter. I spoke to one of the guys one day. "Hi Gangesh, hows it going" "Oh man, all day I look at naked women, it is such a drag, you don't know what it is like doing this job". And I used to be in the position with TalkTalk where not only could you have it on but you had it on by default and couldn't take it off; even though it appeared that you could. Not that I tried you understand.... It seems well over the top. I'd take the example of "violent" play. I can't stand this, absolutely loathe it and can't turn it off fast enough if I find I've clicked on a clip that contains it, but it's legal to do so should be legal to watch. happy_renting
What is needed is a Government Approved Sexual Practices list. Then we can all indulge, safe in the knowledge that Her Maj's Government endorses every grunt fondle and grope. Perhaps a few forms to fill in, and a rubber stamp. Pooch
There's plenty of other things that should be kept behind closed doors, not just pron. For example, I'd prefer it if kids didn't get the chance to be influenced by the openness of the behaviours of the LGBT people, which seems to be everywhere these days. That's more worrying being made to accept that as normal behaviour.
little fish
Using borrowed access through a vodafone dongle I tried to buy underwear . Underwear, not from a porn site or anything like it, not even a saucy site, just nice underwear. Vodafone wanted a copy of my passport scanned to them before allowing me access. Apparantly the site was rated as 18+. I didn't send my passport or buy the underwear. When I got home I emailed the underwear company and gave off. They replied that they didn't even know they were on the 18+ vodafone list. No idea if they got their listing changed or not. This was last summer so the policy has been in force for some time. I am sure you don't have to 18 to have undewear. Why not go to a shop and pay cash for underwear?

little fish
There was no reason for the shop to be on the 18+ list Mr Pin. They were not happy about it at all. The only decently stocked underwear shop in NI went bust at the same time as our housing market. Mind you its rent went up to about 350k, couldn't possibly survive. Yes XswamyX its definitely pants
