The Eagle
Quote According to the Japan Meteorological Agency the quake struck at 5:59am JST at a depth of 10km. Very suspicious, IMHO man-made.
happy_renting
The US Geological Survey initially estimated the magnitude at 7.3 but later downgraded this to 6.9. I have a friend in Kobe :/

There have been quite a few man-made (or rather man-triggered) earthquakes in the last decade or so, and they always get triggered at a depth of approx. 10 km while natural earthquakes usually (but not always) happen at much larger depths. Like climate change? It's funny how conspiraloons pick and choose which natural phenomenon are man made according to their political theories. casual_squash
Said this back in 2011 but they've no hope of containing the nuclear plant there...ever. Not fully anyway between it being an earthquake, typhoon and Tsunami hotspot.

They say three reactors melted down plus I've no idea on what the current status is of the spent fuels rod pool there which were damaged when the buildings blew. About halfway down through the earth's crust (depending on location) so, yes. And on a main tectonic plate faultline, although I expect Eagle thinks someone triggered it by dropping a chopstick in Tokyo.

Most earthquakes (especially those before the last 10-15 years) are centred much deeper than 10 km, 10 km is very shallow for an earthquake. casual_squash
Reports that the cooling system for one of the spent fuel pool has stopped. Not saying it's an immediate concern but it just demonstrates what a ticking bomb the site is. Even if the ice wall idea works, it'll have to be maintained for generations. Just like the other monument to nuclear power disasters, the Chernobyl sarcophagus.
