“If talented people based in the US want to come here to London, my message is simple: London is open.

I thought the Brexit line was that if we left the EU we'd be able to choose people with the skills we wanted from around the world? Can't see anything that Saddiq Khan said that contradicts that, although I think it's a slightly undiplomatic joke considering how upset many Americans are at the moment.

He makes it sound like Americans can just rock up. They can't. They're not allowed. If they try to, they'll be deported as illegals. Says who? Says the Home Office who are a higher authority than the goofy London mayor. Yanks either have to be married to a UK citizen, have a parent who is still a UK citizen, or persuade their UK-located employer to sponsor them on a temporary secondment to the UK. Or they have to be independently wealthy to the tune of about £50k income/year or more. Otherwise they can come over to visit for up to 3 months, but they cannot work or use the NHS for non-accidents or get a lease on a flat. Or they can try to sign up to one of the very few work permits for cleaners, fruit pickers or astrophysicists that the Home Office advertises on its site (but not often as those positions are filled by EU citizens). You know, like the same rules that apply to Brits if they want to live in America.

Siddiq knows the rules and is being a tad dishonest.

US passport holders are non-EU citizens and will need to apply for a settlement visa - waiting time about 6 months to get an interview, £2000+ application fee cost, and good luck passing the discretion of the Home Office who have put the thumb screws on non-EU immigration in the last 6 to 7 years.

"London is open" - empty rhetoric.

^ This is the reality.  "London is open" is not-reality.

Americans were upset when Obama was elected and re-elected. Especially when Obama was elected.

However, they didn't get the media coverage Hillary's naive 'snowflake liberals' did....with their crocodile tears of disappointment.

Nobody was front paging stories about the millions and millions cussing and raging over a n****** in the White House.

Oh... and the rage when the supreme court elected my personal favourite POTUS of all time, Bush II.

Oh how I miss the gaffs of monkey bush.

Khan's real goal is an independent, London-centric visa system for East European migrants adminstered by City Hall.

But in spite of the Brexit vote and the threat of Islamic extremism, Khan wants to keep up the flow of EU migrants to the capital, making good on his slogan “London is open”. He is even asking the government to look at the idea of a “London visa” to ensure employers continue to have access to the world’s best talent. They would vouch for the fact that a recruit had housing and a job in London, and would not be a burden on the state.

It seems to be an extremely reckless, dangerous and divisive statement to make in excluding people purely on who they voted for.

Apart from that where's he going to accommodate the tens of millions of extra people - he's talking as if London doesn't already have a grotesque house price and housing problem .  Basically he's just talking rubbish.
