He makes it sound like Americans can just rock up. They can't. They're not allowed. If they try to, they'll be deported as illegals. Says who? Says the Home Office who are a higher authority than the goofy London mayor. Yanks either have to be married to a UK citizen, have a parent who is still a UK citizen, or persuade their UK-located employer to sponsor them on a temporary secondment to the UK. Or they have to be independently wealthy to the tune of about £50k income/year or more. Otherwise they can come over to visit for up to 3 months, but they cannot work or use the NHS for non-accidents or get a lease on a flat. Or they can try to sign up to one of the very few work permits for cleaners, fruit pickers or astrophysicists that the Home Office advertises on its site (but not often as those positions are filled by EU citizens). You know, like the same rules that apply to Brits if they want to live in America.

Siddiq knows the rules and is being a tad dishonest.

US passport holders are non-EU citizens and will need to apply for a settlement visa - waiting time about 6 months to get an interview, £2000+ application fee cost, and good luck passing the discretion of the Home Office who have put the thumb screws on non-EU immigration in the last 6 to 7 years.

"London is open" - empty rhetoric.

It seems to be an extremely reckless, dangerous and divisive statement to make in excluding people purely on who they voted for.

Apart from that where's he going to accommodate the tens of millions of extra people - he's talking as if London doesn't already have a grotesque house price and housing problem .  Basically he's just talking rubbish.

afaik, if a Brit wants to bring a non EU spouse to live here, they need to have enough income or it isn't allowed. However, if a non British EU citizen wants to live here with their non EU spouse, that's ok, no minimum income required.
