Interesting tax on empty homes in Vancouver

Recommended Posts

Its not 10k per se. It's 1% of assessed property value. That figure is nominal based on averages.

Vancouver is just like much of London. Not so much a city.. but in fact a bank where the currency is property. In Vancouver, that property is mostly condo's. London its a free for all.

Less than 2 weeks to see what May/Hammond will do about wealthy foreigners pricing out local workers,mMy bet is nothing as she'll want to be "open for business"

Her idea of a free trade agreement is to sell off UK infrastructure to any vile dictatorship and borrow money to buy their slave labour made goods which enables overseas nations/business owners to buy UK infrastructure and housing with our borrowed money.

The only reason Gidiot is hanging around like a vile smell is to make money from selling Northern England to the Chinese on the cheap

UK Councils already have the power to charge higher rates of Council Tax on empty properties.

Quite a few do - I know Leeds charges 150% of Council Tax if the property is empty for over 6 months.

Good, although reducing transaction taxes would be a good idea as well. Saying that if you have to move to another place 6 months is not very long.  I would give people who are trying to sell and have a reasonable price a year.

love the comments...one nut says better to pay the tax and leave empty rather than let out and have it trashed...others are evidently angry with the housing situation. Perhaps even Canada will have their brexit/trump moment.
