Those can never be legalised because the government that did so, would be held to have "blood on its hands". Just my opinion: marijuana is less dangerous, less debilitating, and less addictive than alcohol. If I had to choose on a fictitious basis I'd ban alcohol, an incredibly potent, powerful, damaging and destructive (in the wrong hands) drug and legalise marijuana. But then this comes to the effect on individuals. I have an "addictive personality". If I had a choice in Sainsbury's I'd pick up the weed and leave the alcohol ** almost every time. The basis of legalisation was never going to have anything to do with health and everything to do with the tax take which had to exceed that gained from the (powerful) alcohol industry. * A tiny proportion of the population have a severe reaction to this causing death. ** Almost every time. Alcohol works much better as a social drug.

It has been used to treat sufferers of arthritis, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and post-traumatic stress disorder - among other health issues. Not getting many column inches.
