France close to police revolt

Recommended Posts

For the third night running French police have staged mass demonstrations against the government, especially the head of the police and the Interior minister and lax judges. This follows a number of incidents in particular an attack on police vehicles by gangs in a suburb of Paris which has left one policeman in hospital with life threatening burns.

When the government can no longer trust its own police force things have come to a pretty sorry state.  Quis, costodiet ipsos custodes? I hear you ask  Well the French government, always fearful of insurrection, maintains a heavily armed brigade of Republican Guards in the capital and can probably count on the loyalty of the paramilitary Gendarmerie.

Not really hearing too much about this in the British media (not saying it's not there)

Can't blame them really, that attack on the police officer sounded pretty horrific, they should just go on strike until proper sentence are given (in the case of the attacked police officer, it should mean all involved literally spending the rest of their lives in prison)
