Pub sign

Unusual. In my vast experience as an auxiliary Coastguard, the coxswain of the lifeboat is normally staring stonily out to sea. He'll find precious few ships in distress staring at the pub landlord.

The landlord has just told him the size of his bar tab...

I always thought it disappointing that no pub took on The Two Ronnies' pub name of The Rat and Handbag; googling revelas a dearth of references although it did throw up thsi delightful present for that special lady in your life:

Dead Rat Purse

@

Really?!? A purse made out of a dead rat? Now I have seen everything. Don’t get me wrong I have absolutely nothing against rats and other rodents in general, but do I want to be carrying a dead one around as a purse? That would be a resounding no. It’s not my thing, but maybe it’s yours. The designer, Reid Peppard, makes many other taxidermy pieces as well which can be found in a few select boutiques and online here and here.

Aren't rats cute? They are like small people.

That's exactly what I thought, but it turns out to be entirely authentic.

Pub signs can add quite a bit of atmosphere to a pub. I remember when i was a youngster going over the cat and fiddle there was a very scary looking gothic grey cat learing at you out of the fog. Modern sign makers have no  imagination....what's atmospheric about the latest moggie......

I've been there, visiting the passport office for work. Grim. And they say it's grim up north. They've clearly not been to Croydon

"They" can say "it's grim up North" all they like.

"They" are talking 24-carat shite.

"They" can go and chomp on my mutton-musket..!

And "They" can piss off back "darn-sarf" - accompanied only by the subtle, and yet alluringly salty odour of my nob-juice - while it permeates itself onto their soft, gin-drinking breath all the way home.

Phew - glad I got that one off my chest..!

Sshh, don't let 'them' know that it is actually not that grim, especially in god's own (not sure about monkey hanger land though) as we will have even more of 'them' cluttering the place up

Much better indeed Mr hundred-to-one.

In fact, I'm so happy that I've just commuted the death-sentence I imposed earlier today on a family of stowaway chimps from Marseille that I found aboard a boat illegally entering Hartlepool Marina.

I've sentenced them to be transported back to France for life instead..!

Poor bastads...

;)
