200p
As Monarch is a private company it is hard to see what the city is thinking. If we take a look at IAG, EZJ and RYA, their stock charts have been under pressure since the start of the year. This is a sector wide issue. yellerkat
It seems Greybull - the vulture venture capital co that owns Monarch - want to exit the airline industry, but can't find a buyer. Perhaps they've been persuaded to keep going a bit longer? OTOH, they could just DROP THE PRICE!
durhamborn
Buffet said the only people to make money out of airlines were the people selling them the planes. Its not a sector iv ever considered as it seems far too easy to slip up,but it would be interesting to see what their return on capital is. Not easy to sell off. Edited September 27, 2016 by 200p Dramatisation of words
VeryMeanReversion
A friend of mine is starting his own airline (UK<->India operating out of Stansted). He has a lot of wealthy backers but I hate to think how much of his own money is getting tied up in it.
200p
These are the recent stories of airlines that I remember Silverjet 2006 --> 2008 gone https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silverjet --- Fastjet - operational, has just gone through a big internal battle with Stelios and the CEO and another director. The stock price has been in a long downward trajectory. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fastjet

He stopped his bond trading job in September to concentrate on this full time. Interesting history in F1 as well.
