Nothing on the BBC. They're probably deciding what sort of mental illness he's suffering from.

Doctor Chenard will see you now!

Hold on, here we are: Man held after Lawnmarket incident

A man was detained after a disturbance in the city centre. The Lawnmarket was cordoned off as police arrived on Sunday afternoon. A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We can confirm that a disturbance reported at an address in the Lawnmarket earlier today came to a peaceful conclusion at around 4pm. A man has since been detained in relation to this matter.” Police dismissed reports on social media that the man had a device strapped to him as untrue.

Searching twitter, and other sources shows a heavily veiled incident with great care taken to avoid using certain Key words that could indicate it was a major incident. Appa

rently 12 police vehicles on the mound.

Intriguing, especially how the blanket is on reporting.

I'm putting the mass police presence down to loads being on call for the bank holiday weekend and the lack of reporting down to the usual weekend skive off of news staff exaggerated by the bank holiday.

As an example on Saturday during the day a poor woman had her arm (literally) torn off in Hayle when she put her arm through the car window to put the windows up, found that the power had lapsed so turned the key to put it on, the car was in gear so lurched forward. Currently being reattached (hopefully) in Plymouth hospital.

Now this is a horrific news item, there is no reason not to report on it, but it received no mention on the Saturday evening local news which mostly comprised a piece on Dartmouth Regatta.

I call loonie on drugs for the Edinburgh incident.

There isn't a bank holiday here, but there would have been vast crowds of people in that area because it's Festival Central. It typically looks like this every day for about three weeks, so you can see why the police might be nervous.

Seems very plausible: there's a lot of that goes on, usually a domestic argument getting out of hand. Someone got shot in Leith on Friday, and that barely made the news. That looks as if it was probably drug/gang related, but it's away from the middle-class areas so no-one cares.

Edinburgh's always got a bit of an atmosphere on the August bank holiday weekend, especially if the weather's good.

The usual local nutters mixed with an influx of pissed-up headcases from the North-east usually makes for an intoxicating mix.

There used to be an Edinburgh derby on the Sunday to add to the mayhem, but that's not been an issue for a few years...
