Helicopter Money For Homeowners Part 2

Homeowners could be given cash payments to compensate for disruptive new housing

Homeowners in countryside villages and towns could be given cash payments to offset disruptive developments in their communities, the government has said. Ministers’ concern has grown that people affected by unwanted developments near their houses are not adequately compensated.

It could allay residents’ frustration when they feel planning permission is being granted for a building project they oppose. Theresa May is said to be personally interested in the idea as it fits with her drive to create an economy that “works for everyone”.

More handouts to boomers from the young.

How about we will build her just as we built your house here, now STFU

What's the difference between handouts to boomers And £10,000 for every house over fracking

How about we will just frack where there is gas and put the money into the nation's coffers (if you are sold on fracking - I'm ambivalent)

£5-10K to home owners for any kind of inconvenience?

Sounds like a new fiscal blueprint a la PPI... <_<

Just shows how afraid the Tory Party are of losing the boomer/NIMBY vote.

Pity for them this dying generation are being replaced by middle aged and young folk who are price out and think this is a disgrace.

Sell me 0.1 acres of farmland at cost then give me planning permission and i'd give a NIMBY/Boomer several times that amount.

There are already laws about causing a public nuisance.

Why not just give housebuilders in nimby areas an asbo?

What about low-skilled workers whose wages have been effectively cut (and often, literally - due to reduced hours) year after year because they live in immigration hotspots? I'm not sure the government would have enough helicopters to deal with that one.

They're just discussing the Shale Wealth Fund on R4 now. Homeowner saying he was advised to take his house off market when fracking was being planned (or done?) nearby and that he'd only be able to sell if he dropped the price 75 grand. Other person, don't know who it is, mentioned onshore wind-farms, welcomed this sort of approach. Homeowner suggested market-value purchase scheme (did he say plus 50%? I must have imagined that).

Wow, really? What about new roads? New housing estates? Or would they do it based on possible physical damage to property so only fracking - mining, drilling for oil/gas?

If they were to go down this road it would answer one instance of the question 'what will they think of next?'.

Reality really has jumped the shark.

+1

Amazing that people used to be told that the taxation and tax relief system was stretched to its limit and any extra relief was impossible.

Any relief was being extremely generous.

Now the people know that was untrue and there's money to compensate for this that and the other it's very clear that in the past the greedy and self serving cronies have been creaming off trillions more than they ever owned up to.

How about some compensation for that - just print the money off.

You can be sure that any "compensation" will be cheapskate.

Hmm, weren't the Tories supposed to be the free-market-loving party? Surely the free-market solution for NIMBYs is just to buy all the land between you and the horizon to prevent any development on it?

Why isn't the 'compensation' to the rest of the village for taking on 100 extra houses, some infrastructure like a local shop and a primary school which would only become viable if the houses were built and younger families moved in?

IMHO the fracking issue is rather different - they are stealing the oil from under your garden, and then offering you a bit of the profit to shut you up. As the state has decided it owns the petrochemicals in your gardens, they don't actually need to give you anything.

Theresa May can't stop Nimbys by just throwing money at them

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/08/08/theresa-may-cant-stop-nimbys-by-just-throwing-money-at-them/

The new Government won't get an easy time from locals opposed to new housebuilding in its first few months, as it appears that many of them are active in their Nimbyism. Nearly half (44 per cent) of those surveyed say they are "very likely" or "likely" to "actively oppose" the building of housing in their local area.

Christ these people are brainwashed evil fckers, judging by how fat most people are in England its quite clear most of them never go for a walk in the countryside which isn't what will be built on anyway.

They built houses in the hundreds of thousands when they were young, there is absolutely no reason it can;t be done now.

One suspects quite a high proportion of the opposition could be due to the recognition that from past experience whatever they are proposing will be done in a hamfisted, inept, overbearing, self interested and self serving manner and mostly based on swindling, twisting and lies - rather than NIMBYism for its own sake.

Another opportunity to oppose as well - and legally.

Personally I'd like to see the NIMBY protestors dealt with by water cannon, tear gas, plastic bullets and police calvary charges. That should clear the road for the cement mixers to get through.

Crap idea.

1) Would just encourage more to complain in order to get compo.

2) Puts May on the back foot from the get go in regards this issue, offering bribes as an opening gambit is stupid..
