Mancghirl
They don't seem to consider that this could equally well be due to a fall in other kinds of buyers. Spin it, spin it hard. 'Searching' for a property is not the same as getting a mortgage and completing. Searching for one they can afford, no doubt. I'm searching for a l5 bed loft apartment in City Centre Manchester, with free parking, champagne on tap and a Brad Pitt lookalike to do my bidding, thrown in, for 50k. As I am unlikely to find one, I won't become a buyer....... Rearrange these words into a popular phrase or saying: Straws, clutching, at...... apom
They don't seem to consider that this could equally well be due to a fall in other kinds of buyers. Spin it, spin it hard. Personally I have no intention of buying.. I am one of their figures.. I am also one of those mortgage approvals.. I didn't even ask for a mortgage, my bank approved me anyway. Won't say which.. but I did phone them up and instruct them that their figures should not be used as official statistics.. I think they listened. less then 7% according to the estate agents group.. Less then 7% of those buying are first time buyers..

apom
and they wanted to lend me up to 5 times my salary.. As I was such a good customer.. I did ask how I was going to pay that each month if interest rates.. Actually I don't think they were listening to me any more then I was to them. Guest wrongmove
I am one of their figures.. I am also one of those mortgage approvals.. I didn't even ask for a mortgage, my bank approved me anyway. I don't think the stats in the original post are very reliable, but the BoE mortgage approvals are only counted after a property survey has been completed (costing several hundered ponds), so just filling in a form on the web, or being "pre-approved" won't get you into the figures.
