Culpability Brown Report post Posted January 3, 2006 Happy New Year people. There have been some big movers today - even though the FTSE had a good day all is not well around the Globe. Crude oil has leapt back above $60, up $2.40 on the day to $63.45. Gold has gone mental up $12 to $529.70 or £306 - Nice!! That's an annual gain of +$100. Meanwhile the DOW is struggling down a point to 10,716. We have one hell of an exciting year ahead of us. CB.

Van Report post Posted January 3, 2006 Why is the FTSE up, but the Dow isn't? Whats the difference? FTSE's oil components BP & SHEL make up almost 1/4 of the index. Also, Dow is "old-economy" that is very reliant on energy prices. FTSE/S&P500 is a much better comparison.
