The French Regime Is Meddling In Libya Again

Recommended Posts

After destroying this most prosperous and stable African country in 2011, the French regime is meddling in Libya again:

Confirmation of a French military presence in Libya caused outrage in the restive country. Hundreds of Islamist supporters and the UN-backed unity government accused Paris of backing a powerful militia commander who challenges both groups.

The anger in Libya sparked after it was revealed that Paris is helping the troops of Khalifa Haftar, a powerful military commander challenging the Libyan government.

The military cooperation was exposed to the public by the deaths of three French Special Forces troops, who died in a helicopter crash along with several Haftar men near Benghazi, when the aircraft was allegedly shot down by a militia group opposing the commander.

Hundreds of Libyans in several cities, especially capital Tripoli and Misrata, marched in a protest against the French intervention, Libyan TV channels shown on Thursday. The protests were fueled by several prominent clerics, who denounced Western intervention in Libya and GNA.

"Get your hands off Libya," read placards held by protests in the capital. "No French intervention," read another.
[...]
They are not backed by the UN, these interventions. They are not checked anywhere. They are just unilateral acts of military aggression,
[...]
France played a key part in the NATO operation, which turned the tide for the rebels in 2011 and resulted in Gaddafis summary execution and de facto dissolution of the once-prosperous country into warring states.

And then you wonder why moderate Muslims turn into extremists...

Not content with meddling in Libya, the French regime is also murdering civilians in Syria now:

‘Beyond a massacre: France deliberately bombed Syrian civilians after Nice attack’

Western coalition forces knew they were attacking an area inhabited by civilians and yet they carried out a bombing. How can 30 airstrikes be a mistake?
[...]
The alleged French act of aggression claimed the lives of more than 120 civilians, most of them children, women and elderly. The fate of scores of other civilians still under the debris is unknown. The letter also mentioned the French air strikes came a day after US warplanes conducted a bombing raid, which Damascus claims killed 20 other civilians.

The patises (like the guy in Nice or the idiot in Germany) are obviously Muslim extremists, it's their handlers (or the handlers of their handlers) who aren't.

The French are not known for their sucessful Military exploits are they?

Look at Indo-china etc

You don't even have to look that far. What about their poor showing in WWs 1 and 2?

The frogs can fight. They just keep picking the wrong enemies.

Ha. Yes, very well put.

We have a fine military record but if we singlehandedly attacked China then I couldn't see us winning.

In the good old days that's exactly what we did.

Indeed; in the middle years of the nineteenth century we would probably have won a British Empire v Rest of the World.

We should have gone for it!

Napoleon wasn't a midget! French inches were bigger than UK ones!

On the sea perhaps. On land our Army was pretty crap.

I thought you were jesting but it does say his reported height of 5'2" wpuld be 5'7" today as the modern inch is slightly smaller. So slightly shorter than average but not much.

I used to wonder how many Napoleons the British Army missed because of height minima.

Even our land forces had plenty of poor shows in the 20thC like much of the Boer War, the Somme, Dunkirk, singapore, Suez etc. Didn't do so well peace keeping in Afghanistan or Basra more recently either... You can't win them all, especially if you can't afford proper support and equipment. For the moment our anti terrorism guys seem on top. Let's hope they keep that up.

Interesting point about being top dog mid nineteenth century. Part of that I suspect was being the first country to industrialise. Of course Prussia/Germany were soon to have the same power behind them, and followed by the US who were more powerful too.

Afghanistan has always been a notoriously tricky place. Almost impossible to conquer or control properly - as the Russians stated (with the benefit of their experience) before the West went it.

Probably for similar reasons as to why the Romans didn't conquer Scotland or Ireland; you need a certain level of societal organisation and economic productivity to both have something you can conquer and to make it worth conquering.

This is early first millennium AD Scotland and Ireland I'm talking about; not now!
