Former E U Pres Barroso Gets Plum Job At Goldman Sachs

Recommended Posts

Most of us probably just sighed and said 'no surprise there then'.

However, there are those who have criticised the appointment, suggesting it might harm the EU's image. Laugh. Prominent among those is 'Le Monde',

in an article describing Barroso as 'anti-European'.

It was Barroso who manipulated the Greek government during Bailout #1, vowing to 'kill the referendum' and consigning Papandreou to oblivion, then placing a Goldman Sachs technocrat as Greek Prime Minister. Anti-Democratic, certainly.

Needless to say, Greeks are not wishing him well in his new job.

“Jose Manuel brings immense insights and experience to Goldman Sachs, including a deep understanding of Europe,” GSI co-chief executives, Michael Sherwood and Richard Gnodde, said in a statement.

There was a time when someone like 'World In Action' or 'Panorama', when 'Panorama' was a serious investigative programme staffed by great journos, would do an investigative programme on this - linking all the EU leaders, central bankers, etc, to these 3 or 4 big banks.

Only publication left that do that are Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair.

Oh, and I forgot to remind anyone who'd forgotten that it was Barroso who intrigued with Samaras that he'd be favoured if the bailout terms were accepted without negotiation.

Should possibly be merged with my thread on the same topic from a week ago (got moved into the Current Affairs folder):

The problem is this is just so normal in a week or two it'll be forgotten. Those that know the damage this revolving door does just aren't going to act.

Absolutely. Whatever happened to the Panama Papers.
