European Economic Area?

Recommended Posts

The UK appears to be a member of this independent of its membership of the EU:

Do we have to explicitly leave it or does leaving the EU trigger some kind of automatic departure? Anyone know how this works?

AFAIK, they're separate... The Adam Smith Institute released this today... http://www.adamsmith.org/blog/time-for-the-eea-option

There is an interesting video on YouTube called 'Flexit' by Dr Richard North which contains some info on the EEA agreement, as far as I understand you can have access to the single market defined in the EEA agreement either through the EU or EFTA. With EFTA we keep control of agricultural and fisheries policy, no political guff like the EU, downside (to some people) is freedom of movement of labour. So the question becomes, how do we reactivate our EFTA membership? Looks like an ideal stepping stone to get out and then decide if we want to go 'out out':

Freedom of movement can be flexible, and tailored to your needs...Interesting...cheers for the vid.

When you are single, you can partner up with whom and with as many as you like. Or none at all.

The UK as a founder member and creator of EFTA. We left it when we joined the EEC.

EFTA made Volvos popular in the UK, as Sweden were in it too. Their cars were cheaper than EU ones, and didn't fall apart.
