After "hate Crime" We Have "mate Crime"

Recommended Posts

This is where somebody befriends a vulnerable person in order to exploit them or worse; some end in their torture and death.

It's a terrible thing and the cases that I have read about are heartbreaking. One guy taken to a railway viaduct by people he thought were his friends, made to hang off it, then they stamped on his hands.

So I'm not trivialising it or minimising it.

I do however hugely object to the infantile label of "Mate Crime" now ascribed to it. We'll probably get a whole slew of new laws and "raising awareness" campaigns for something that people would anyway report to the authorities if they knew that it was happening.

It's still hate crime. How could anyone do something like that to a person they didn't hate? It's beyond comprehension.

Hate crime has nothing to do with hate. One of its many stupidly hypocritical features.
