City Of London

Recommended Posts

The square mile 'City of London' is a soveriegn state with its own 2000 police force that is not subject to British Law. It is also the base for the Stock Exchange and The Bank of England which is a private corporation .

The question is:

WHY is a bank thats privately owned, based in a square mile not subject to british law, allowed to set rates and print money in our democratic country ?

The city has its own bylaws but is subject to all british laws. It is part of the UK.

The bank of england is owned by the treasury. That is definitely part of the UK government.

Apart from facts 1 and 2 both being wrong anything else you want to ask.

yes,

1997: Brown sets Bank of England free

The Chancellor, Gordon Brown, has given the Bank of England independence from political control.

The treasury is resposible for the overall institutional structure of regulation, and the legislation which governs it.

It has no operational responsibility for the activities of the Bank, and will not be involved in them.

So what does all that mean then ?

How can the Treasury own the bank but not have any operational responsibilty or be involved in them which is written in text via pdf format on the bank of england website !

Eek,

In human geography, an enclave is a piece of land which is totally surrounded by a foreign territory. If another country has sovereignty over it, it is also called an exclave of that other country.

which can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enclave

The City of London itself has two independent enclaves within it — Inner Temple and Middle Temple. These two areas form part of the City and Ceremonial county, but are not governed by the Corporation of London.

The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple is one of the four Inns of Court around the Royal Courts of Justice in London, England, to which barristers belong and where they are called to the Bar. The other Inns are Middle Temple, Gray's Inn and Lincoln's Inn.

Since the 14th century, the Inner Temple, like Middle Temple, has been located adjacent to the Temple Church, which serves as the colleges' chapel. The church was the headquarters of the Knights Templar and gives the area around it the name "Temple". It is called the Inner Temple as the church lies within its boundary. It is an independent enclave physically within the City of London, but not governed by the Corporation of London.

So, it does look like there are 2 enclaves within the city of london that are not owned by england. This should be of some concern becuase it does mean people in a non british piece of land do have powers over our laws and finance within our so called democratic country.

And that is FACT.

The other enclave which we have already realised is a seperate piece of land from within england is called the middle temple.

Just by going to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_Temple

you will read that it's also the Headquarters for the Knights Templar which is the largest, and most powerful of the Christian military orders, the Poor Knights of Christ and the Temple of Solomon, originally named The Poor Knights of Christ and the Temple which is in Jerusalem is widely known as the Knights Templar. It was founded in 1118, in the aftermath of the First Crusade of 1096, to help the new Kingdom of Jerusalem maintain itself against its hostile Muslim neighbors, and to ensure the safety of the large numbers of European pilgrims who flowed towards Jerusalem after its conquest.
