Hydrogen Cyanide Death..?

Recommended Posts

Poor family.

Lethal effects of flooding into landfill sites is a new one to me. It's going to blight a lot of properties.

Or it is actually carbon monoxide from the water pump the family were using.

Occam's razor suggests...

But there did appear to be cyanide in the area, post-mortem found relatively low levels of CO and the father was treated for cyanide poisoning. So there could well be something in it.

Apparently cyanide and carbon monoxide can potentiate each other, so there could have been sub-lethal quantities of both (on their own) and still died.

Had an email about this story

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-surrey-36429678

They have almost reached the amount they need ""We are trying to find £70,000 just to get a death certificate and hopefully from that some recommendations on landfill."

poor lad.horrible way to go.

it's not quick and it's not painless.

carbon monoxide is just fall asleep and not wake up

cyanide is collapse to the floor and writhe around foaming at the mouth and having convulsions.

used to work with the stuff (it's a biproduct on PCB manufacture- gold(nitrate) etching etc-using hydrochloric acid),in some of our processing labs in my last job....you hear that alarm sound and you run.
