cica
I had some minor surgery to investigate something that turned out to be nothing around my arm pit lymph nodes. The opening is about 2.5cm and I assume was closed by some sort of glue or something? Not traditional stitches anyway. What's bizarre is that there is a single stitch there that I have to return to see the doctor to have removed. Does anyone know what this is? It's a single stitch parallel to the entire surgery opening that doesn't seem to do anything. http://tinypic.com/r/2mhcys0/9 It makes no sense to me. What is it for? What am I getting at here? I'm suspicious the doctor is doing this for some non medical reason. To bill my insurance company an extra visit? Something else?
Turned Out Nice Again
Keyhole surgery. Double-check you aren't now missing a kidney.
XswampyX
It looks like it's there to stop the wound from stretching, the glue probably works really well across the cut, but if it's elongated then it fails. Maybe.
Clarky Cat
This is a type of subcuticular suture. There's no glue involved. There'll be a running zig-zag of suture buried in the skin, holding the edges of the wound together. The loop allows it to be removed.

You seriously think a doctor would risk losing their licence to practice medicine by doing something medically unnecessary just so they could send an extra bill to your insurance company? happy_renting
Your doctor is just using you as a practice embroidery sampler. It'll be alphabets and "Home Sweet Home" next time.
The Masked Tulip
They glue wings onto the fuselage of modern fighter aircraft but they also put a 'chicken rivet' in place to stop the intial seam opening. Sounds like your doc has done the same thing. What about the new brand on your bottom?
