The First Amendment

Recommended Posts

Why is Trump campaigning against the first amendment. The constitutional right to religious freedom. He will never win that.

Rather than his weasel words of apology Cameron should have reaffirmed his belief in the fundamental rights of Americans.

He is. He is trying to ban people from entering the country based on their religion alone. If they are Muslim.

Since when are foreigners covered by the US constitution? In any case he's never advocated a permanent ban.

America originated as a safe haven for those who were being persecuted in other countries and the point

Trigglypuff, is that you?

We are honoured, sorry, honored, by your presence.

Wait, so America wasn't set up by blood-thirsty, slave-owning, Indian-killers out for world domination as the Left endlessly repeats over and over? They were really just looking for a safe space to avoid the microaggressions of the British establishment.

Apart from blacks, not a safe space for blacks was it? Or the natives. Not safe for them either. Or the Chinese railroad workers.

Lets not try to pretend that the US isn't founded on white European protestant principles.

Since when are foreigners covered by the US constitution?

The US constitution was supposed to enshrine a set of rights that applied to all men, by some natural order, and that the government should not encroach upon. So really foreigners should indeed be covered, but then of course so should slaves, native americans, people in foreign countries that the US has bombed, Guantanamo inmates, etc...

No, he said it would be wise to halt immigration of muslims, currently unbridled, until they can understand what makes them a danger to society as a whole...you know, like having to have TSA on and at every airport.

A halt. not a ban.

Listen to what he says at first, compare with what is reported. If he wins, then see if he does what he says.

Otherwise, feel free to scream racist at the top of your voice.

Slavery was halted by the constitution.

I have no idea on you point re the Indians.

The Constitution covers rights for US citizens not foreigners...

What's wrong with that? His country, his rules

I don't hear anyone bleating about Saudi's entry ban on Israeli passport holders

Well it was French, British and Spanish at one time...It was called America then too.

Slavery was not halted by the US Constitution. The Civil War ended it (and killed a significant percentage of the population), after which the Constitution was changed to reflect the new reality. The Constitution was never meant to be universally applied when it was first adopted -- black slaves were specifically treated as a separate category who were not provided equal rights.

Its there today with its power....how do you mean it was never applied?

Do you mean some citizens ignored it to carry out criminal acts?
