Sadiq Khan put a crackdown on rogue landlords at the centre of his final day of campaigning.

As the mayoral race entered its last 24 hours, the Labour frontrunner set out plans for a London Landlord Watchlist and said he would come down on those who exploit tenants “like a ton of bricks”. In a policy targeted at London’s two million renters, a public City Hall database would empower tenants to check out landlords before moving into a property, and “name and shame” the worst ones. It could include those who have repeatedly broken the law.

Is it really tomorrow? I have no idea who to vote for - they all seem a bit crap. Might vote for the cannabis is safer than alcohol party.

Or just stay at home in bed. That'll count.

Women died not that long ago so that I would have the right to put an X next to one of half a dozen shit candidates so I feel a bit like I have to vote.

If you don't like any of the candidates (although in London the Green candidate looks fairly solid on housing), I always recommend writing "You're all shyte" or words to that effect on the ballot paper.

I dream that one day there'll be an election where the majority will actually be spoiled papers.

The London Green Party has brilliant housing policies, just looking at a leaflet now:

- set up a renters' union to help the 2.3 million Londoners who privately rent their homes stand together and push for rent controls;

- stop disaster of estate demoliation and 'regeneration' by private developers;

- not-for-profit housing company to build 200,000 houses with councils, small developers and communities.

Candidate - Sian Berry - is a tenant herself.

"I am a private tenant and I know that the cost, insecurity and constant upheaval takes its toll. The independent London Renters Union I will help set up as Mayor will enable renters to come together and stand up for their rights against rogue landlords and letting agents." K-POWWWW!

I will be voting for her, have long been a green voter, you've got to vote for what you think is right, and she should get onto the Assembly, so one more Assembly member saying this sort of thing.

And Sadiq Khan alright about housing and seems like a genuine enough bloke. I really don't think this is an election that we have no real choice in, we just need to get out there and tick those boxes. And think of the damage that Bozza-Lite Master Goldsmith would do, for god's sake, get out there. There are squillions of us, take heart!

In terms of the most desirable outcome, afaict, my vote will be:

Mayoral - Green/Labour (Labour will inherit the Green vote, but hopefully get the message re housing)

Constituency - Labour (fptp)

List - Green (proportional - should help get them a few more seats)

(Tooting btw)

Agree with you on the Greens and have already voted. But Khan is not a genuine bloke. Watch him on Have I Got New For You. He is an utterly slimy git.

The green party wants unlimited open doors immigration https://policy.greenparty.org.uk/mg.html:

Medium-term Policies

MG300 We will work to achieve greater equity between the UK and non-Western countries. In step with this, we will progressively reduce UK immigration controls.

Let me know how rents fair when the rest of the world who haven't already made it to London (there might be a couple left) turn up.

Ken Livingston was the last mayor to truly get things done, because he was mainly concerned with improving London rather than his ties to the Labour party. I'm not sure about Sadiq Khan, he seems like right of centre Blairite, so I'm voting Green/Labour.

Goldsmith is like some bizarre public school robot with zero life experience. So far removed from the real world.

Shame he campaigned to stop a terrorist from being deported and used racial slurs for those he disagreed with.

Back on topic, I'm a bit surprised by how far out you have to go to get an average 1 bedder for <1k per month.

Leyton on the central line, Plaistow on the district line, Stanmore on the Jubilee line and Hounslow on the Piccadilly line (Hounslow isn't even in London FFS!)

London is even more fecked for renters than I thought it was...

Some of those prices look low to me, so I would worry about the quality of these 'average' places.

What does the mayor have to do with immigration?

Gives the Greens a bigger platform to promote some of their more loony policies. If the Greens leader changed tomorrow I bet the majority wouldn't know who, or care who it is, yet most people will know who the new London mayor is.
